Shimon Y. Nof, PhD, DHC, is Professor of Industrial Engineering, Purdue University, and held visiting positions at MIT and at universities in Chile, EU, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, and Taiwan. He is the Director of the NSF-industry supported PRISM Center for Production, Robotics and Integration Software for Manufacturing & Management (established 1991) and its associated PGRN, PRISM Global Research Network; Fellow, recent President and Secretary General of IFPR (International Federation of Production Research); Fellow of the IIE (Institute of Industrial Engineers), recent Chair of the IFAC Coordinating Committee "Manufacturing & Logistics Systems"; and inaugural member of Purdue’s Book of Great Teachers (1999). He is the author, co-author and editor of fourteen books, including the Handbook of Industrial Robotics 1st and 2nd editions, the International Encyclopedia of Robotics, (both winners of the "Most Outstanding Book in Science and Engineering",) Information and Collaboration Models of Integration, Industrial Assembly, Springer Handbook of Automation, Revolutionizing Collaboration Through e-Work, e-Business, and e-Service, and Best Matching Theory & Applications. His over 190 journal article publications have been published by Computers in Industry, the International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Computers and IE, International Journal of CIM, IIE Transactions, Annual Reviews in Control, Production Planning and Control, Automatica, and others. His current research thrusts are collaborative control theory and cyber-physical augmentation, supply decision networks, future of work, and networked human-robots-sensors teams.
