August 12 - 14, 2019

Spouses, family and companions of conference attendees are invited on a cultural tour in and around the city of Chicago.  Your registration offers you access to the continental breakfast each morning before departing, lunch each day and all entrance fees.   Program is led by Missouri S&T’s own history buff, Dr. Jeff Schramm who is Associate Professor in the History department. 

$225.00 – join all 3 days for reduced rate

Monday, August 12th – Exploring the neighborhood (walking tour)

Depart 9:00 am; Return 3:00 pm

  • Millennium Park – enjoy the immaculate grounds, Pritzker pavilion, Cloud Gate (the bean), Crown fountain and more
  • Chicago Cultural Center – the former Chicago Public Library and is a wonderful example of Beaux Arts civic architect
  • Macy’s – The iconic Marshal Field building is the world’s third largest store and an architecture wonder containing tiffany ceilings, huge columns and grand atriums.
  • Lunch in the historic Walnut room, a Chicago landmark for over a century
  • Daley Plaza and the Picasso – just one block away with the famous Picasso sculpture
  • Aqua and the New East Side – site of former railroad yards and warehouses along with one of the city’s newest and upcoming communities.

Tuesday, August 13th – Architecture & Art

Depart 9:00 am; Return 4:00 pm

  • Chicago Architectural Center – just a block from the conference hotel
  • John Hancock Sky deck – travel up Magnificent Mile to the best view of the city in the supertall skyscraper of 1,128 feet.
  • Lunch at Chicago style pizzeria
  • Art Institute of Chicago – one of the oldest and largest art museums in the U.S. and a must see.   From the world renowned French Impressionist collection to American art favorites like Grant Wood’s American Gothic and ancient treasures from across the globe to modern masterpieces by Dali, Matisse and Picasso, the museum has something for everyone – art experts and new museum goers alike.

Wednesday, August 14th – River Cruise

Depart 9:00; Return 1:00 pm

  • Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise - The river made Chicago, and the best way to see Chicago is from the river. This tour is narrated by knowledgeable volunteer docents who will share how Chicago grew from a small settlement into one of the world’s largest cities.  Tour will show us a huge variety of architecture from the last 125 years. (Cruise is rain or shine. For best views sit on the top deck at the rear, please wear weather appropriate attire. Drinks and snack are available on board for purchase.)
